Stoves, HH and the Bills "Next Year"

Word. Set # 71 counting down and now more focused.
About 101 days till I walk and there is much to do ... much to do.
This is my 100th blog post.  I guess that is some milestone. "meh"

(Power) Prolific

adjective
  1. 1.
(of a plant, animal, or person) producing much fruit or foliage or many offspring.

(Force) Barren
adjective
  1. 1.
(of land) too poor to produce much or any vegetation.

*******
Seeking to make 32 holes around this can bottom, with these pins.
(.60 mm pins +/- .02)
Quilting Pin is the longer, stouter pin.
The short one is a standard sewing pin.

I'll be using the Quilting pin as it seems to have been produced by a company with a little higher standard for pin making.  The shafts of the pin are really uniform and mostly straight at .58mm to .60mm
That falls within my tolerance guidelines for this DIY stove.
The smaller pin goes from .58 to .62 along the pins shaft.
That being a little larger, I'll save that as a second pass if needed in my precision holes.  They are cheaply made as it should be for what they do.

Feeling the difference in the wire used to make the pins was interesting.
Reminded me of a conversation I once had with a College Dropout who was forced to work in a pallet nail factory because the Educational Institution lost his payment for school.

The nail factory taught him skills that would never be mastered in a class or lab anyway.  Burring fork trucks in gravel parking lots comes to mind, lol.

Took the school a whole semester (or was it a year) to fix the issue and apologize.
That was TOO late.
The man decided to go it on his own and that has made all the difference.

The conversation was about wire composition and of "how do you stretch steel to that small without snap?"

The College thing where they would not allow him to pay to go ... I think it was the Universe telling the brilliant young mind that they would be able to make it without the degree.  lol  And HE did!

Back to pin wire:

The two different pins "feel" different enough to make it easy to choose which will work well for this project.

In deciding on making Pepsi/Guinness Alcohol stoves for my adventure, the first issue faced was making the precision holes needed to create the best jets for blue flame cooking.
I have made stoves in my past that have semi blue/mostly orange flames and I used a Push Pin to create the jets on those older stoves.
Precision drill bits are too expensive and snap too easily for this job.  It needs to be able to be reproduced in the field if necessary.

Back then, I did not use a measuring device to verify the shaft of the push pin that most likely was bent and thicker in diameter.

Now that I have a very inexpensive way to make gas jets, I can move forward.
The cost of purchasing a drill bit for a .6mm hole was enough for me to find another option.  Punching the holes is going to work just fine.

It will be a two part process:
1st - make a tiny pierce at all 32 points around the rim.
(exact placement up the bottoms slope has yet to be determined)

2nd - on an "undetermined at this time" angle, finish piercing the hole to within my hole tolerances to create a Vortex of flame.

Test, test, test, test  .... modifying along the development.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that my data to build one is correct and I will not be making any changes in the three different stoves I will be creating.   I did a lot of testing back in VA 10 years ago with my 6 prototypes. I know specifically what I desire to make.
Also, having troubleshot GE Mark V control systems for our turbines to find out which gas jet of them all was plugged by calculating our vortex of heat back to it's source while in full production mode was helpful in my understanding of this design.
(The link goes to the Mark V control system description overlay PDF)

This was all back in the day when I thought I was in my dream career and making electricity from too much steam that I was responsible for making as well.
Toilets To Turbines, at INDECK Energy, we could do it all.
I really do miss that career sometimes.  It was just not to be.
(The Indeck link will take you to a page that shows the Power Plants still out there .... Oswego and Olean are the two I seen and help to build from prints.  Field and mud to full certifications and production.)  EPA, OSHA, Niagara Mohawk Power ... Good times.
So much to still forget.  Flashes of stuff.  Natural Gas compressors, Large Fuel Tanks of Oil and deliveries, Ammonia, Acid and Caustic Storage, containment and disposal.  Yep, good times.

If you happen to be real bored: HERE is a link to a GE Steam Turbine PDF of knowledge.
1800# of PURE H2O Super Heated Steam has to be put to good work don't cha know.
1500# of Silica Free Super Heated Steam at the Throat of the Steam Turbine and 30# of HIGH VOLUME PURE steam for industry to use as it was one of our waste products out of the Graham condenser.   Negative pressures.

And HRSG's are a work of art with flue gasses that can close a plant down by the Federal Government in 15 min if left uncontrolled out the stack into the environment.
At the cost of thousands of $$$$ a second.

78 MW/13.8 KV of waste Electricity and 30# of High Volume Pure (waste) Steam for Industry.  An awesome business until the Monopoly changed the rules and I become injured.
The universe moved me to the next bleeding edges .... Corporation Communications and Education Networks in the Y2K age.

Back to my stove ....

Three types:
1) 32 jet alcohol burner
(w/ modified trial simmer ring for baking)

2) Single center jet alcohol burner for baking & simmering
(a modified Penny Stove)

3) Modified Little Dandy wood burner for showers and larger pots

My HH made it back from 2QZQ with some add ons for my trip.
Not only did they add a zipper to the FULL  back side of the factory HH tarp, they added 4 extra zipper pulls!

Kinda hard to describe but the end result is that I have a Zipper pull for each side at the Head of my Tarp that will allow for the full Net to be removed.
At the mid point of each Zipper Length, I have 2 pulls on each side to be able to zip it open in either direction.  Head or Foot.
Perfect!   I felt like it would restrict me to only have one side that I could egress from.  Now it is indeed, perfect.

With the package came two tarp pole sleeve pockets that I'll be adding to my Winter Tarp to hold up the center.  A Modification from the original design that I have yet to sew together.  Now I can.

I also purchased a bag for the head of my tarp that is tapered to fit into the cavity above my head in the hammock.
The second bag is larger than the one that came with the zipper work that hides, or should I say stows, the screen when it is not being used at the foot of my HH Hotel.

I purchased their Tree Table.  Easier/quicker/stronger than making one from scratch and a fantastic idea to ALWAYS  have a level surface to set my stove kit up on every time I cook.

One last purchase was a 4 sleeve ditty bag that will run on my ridge line inside the screening with the one that HH gives with the hammock.
I like keeping things within reach and the HH bag was a single, deep screen.  Might hold a water bottle ... might.
I needed glasses and alarm and phone types of holders.

Added to the package were 3 unexpected items:
A 13" strip of Velcro, a $1 bill, a slice of 3 views of a Rice A Roni box bottom/front/side.

The velcro was for a request if they could sew some to close up the two layers of my hammock where the insulation is placed.
It is hard to describe so they gave me a few strips that they use to help my cause.
The $1 is ???   I guess to purchase a box of Rice a Roni.
I'm accepting it as a good will offering for my travel.

The Rice A Roni costs $1 at Wal Mart and $3 a box on Amazon.
It could be delivered to the trail for me. lol.

The box bottom reveals the companies "Less Saturated Fat" directions for cooking which coincides with trail type cooking.
Using Olive Oil instead of butter.
The Bar Code says it is the Creamy 4 Cheese version.
That could be crucial information in this clue.
One box serves 2.5 people or 1/2 hungry hiker.
@750 calories for a full box at dinner or lunch would be my guess.
1 box is probably 100% of the daily recommended amount of Sodium too.

With 12 flavors ... there is a thought of what I will have and can pick up all along the trail from time to time.  I guess I'll test a box soon.
I'm almost set to start making up "baking and breakfast" bags for my mail drops.  I like the mixes I've found in hiking books and desire to try a few.
Dinners and Lunches are a bit trickier.
I've several baking items I need to test before I mass produce a few too.  I best make a stove soon now that I have my tree table.

********

 Here's the gear:

Seen from left to right: Bag to house the zippered (non-detachable) screen.
Blue and Screen colored 4 pouch ridge line
a $1 bill that was in our package for my trip.  A Good Will Offering.

ta
From Left to right again,  2QZQ tree table and under it is my tarp pole holders and the carry bag for the table, a Rice A Roni box bottom and a blue bag that will reside in the opposite end of my HH for a jacket stow or blanket or something to be stuffed in it.

All laid out in one picture.

Finally, the Buffalo Bills get to watch the rest of the playoffs from home ... so does Tom Brady and the NE Pats.
The second part helps ease the pain a bit of a long season of cost.

NFL costs money IF you specifically follow one team.
This year, the network flex scheduling took a bit more of my capital than I cared to part with to watch my team play this year.
Cheaper than going to the games physically for sure but still a sting to my wallet.

I'm back to paying just to watch Colbert without commercials, lol.
No plans on football next year.  I'll take what shows up when it arrives.
Moving Forward,

P.S.  my past ability to memorize things that were important to my job did continue past my understanding that it was important to my continuing careers to continue doing that practice.

Some of these figures and tables in the list way below …. I can see glimpses of them still.  Thick manuals with copies in the Managers Offices, the Control Room with the "Cat Bird" Seat of Focus and down in the control cabinet for the beasts themselves to save walking time in crisis.

I, having interacted with 2 Sister machines for over 6 years ... some things just remain part of our makeup.  Tough to shake.

And this was just ONE machine in the plant.
Yes, it was the Main Heat source but just one machine of machines.
Had to know and understand them all to be there.
From mud up.
Twice.

And that's the trick to building a Technician from the Mud Up.
Stick 'em in the Bilges of a ship changing out live level indicators while the warm and hot liquid swishes to and fro … to and fro.

Place them on a Ships mast in Port … out on the furthest of the yardarm to change out the 5 aircraft warning lamps … both Port and Starboard …. while being tethered to your supervisor who informs you that YOUR existence is in their control.
Do not cross them for the next 3 years as they operate one faction of the Mafia Style black market found on any USS vessel.
Ours was set under family standard adapted from Italy.
Visiting Napoli and dining with my other 2nd Generation friends family back home eased the meaning of "why" and "how" it works for them.
Rules at sea where darkness and ocean are the only thing to hear you scream … that is, if found to be out of line.

All I did different to survive in the "city" environment called a USS vessel was blend into the streets.  Just like I blended into "clics" in H.S. - be a fraction of them all.  And questionable as to why I was there in their midst to begin with.  Always on the edge.

On a USS vessel, and being an Electrician is now WHY the Universe worked with my failures to help build me to become me.
I choose Nuclear Electronics and my stupidity and drunken car crash (that did not happen on the books) caused a ripple in my time line of life.
I came out of that "accident" no longer a Nuclear candidate but a mis-fit, failure, 2nd chance Electrician.  Who got to play near, around and with Nuclear stuffs.  But that would take time and adventure before it was to be.

My first assignment for self was to "PROVE TO THE WORLD" that I was not a failure and then I "tripped" my way to BE the BEST at my job.  I had HIGH friends in places ALL over the ship.

To be the best "Sparky" there was on that ship, I had to know and see ALL of the ship.  Oddly enough, it was one of my watch responsibilities to touch every "unsealed" compartments on the ship.  Sound and Security while in port and on Shore Power.

All of my education came at a cost and I was willing to put in the work.  Hours and hours of reading books that were dusty.
Morally, Ethically, Honorably as I could while smoking weed.
Smoking weed kept me from being fish food.  A Great Exchange.

Building a great technician … teach them to learn and love learning.  Machines are parts …. master the parts and OHM's law. :)

The seed comes from a Man who had Zero desire that his children walk in the footsteps of learning that their father needed to.
Do as I say, not as I do.   I guess I became like my Dad after all.

More will dump out later …. I'm sure of it.

I was blessed with a re-occurrence of my past yesterday.
I somehow, through memory and conversation, was able to relive a day with my Father-in-Law.
It was our first meeting when he asked me pointedly what was my intent with his daughter.

I was a sailor to be and she a senior in H.S.

I was committed to the Navy by contract, just not ready to be consumed by them.  Really did not see it coming.

I remember informing her Father that my intentions were pure.  She was my friend and I wanted to spend time with her before I was to depart for boot camp and nuclear candidate school.  I knew he had best intentions for her too ... he shared those.  It was a good conversation.

As for what I shared with him, those were my plans ... The Universe had other plans for all of us all in a few years.

I informed him that I was known by 2 of his other daughters whom were in my classes my last year in Attica.

That helped somewhat.  He had informants now. lol

It was a nice re-memory.

On to the next thing this Saturday.  Buffalo Bills Playoffs!!!!
I'm looking forward to a great contest.

208#  Wii reported 0.0 change.
I remained the EXACT weight from Christmas to New Years.
Wednesday to Wednesday.
I call that a victory.
Now I'm ready to ramp up my efforts and start building a little more muscle to my frame.  More Leg and Arm work is needed now.   Abs are wrinkled.  I've never had flat, wrinkled abs before.  Kinda cool growing old.
I am as tall as Frank Gore #20 but he has me by 40# plus of pure muscle.  I would think 75# with the amount of fat that still remains on my frame.

I can pinch inches in a lot of spaces.
I guess it is time to pull out the measuring tape and do another body fat analysis.
Drum Roll .......

Result: 29.6% and ...... I forgot what my other entry was but the web page result from Omni was the same:
Sorry, you are not fit enough to join the US Navy.   Keep on training!     :)

**********
Here is my November 1st entry:
Time to see "where I am": Gut check time.
Source: USN Body Fat Guide
Body Fat Calculators: Omni and Navy
Body Fat %:  Omni (35.2%) and Navy  (35%) for compare
Weight to move: @ 75# of Fat & that feels about right.
Note: Omni informs me that it is sorry for me. lol
Sorry, you are not fit enough to join the US Navy. Keep on training!

***********

So, the result of my 2 month effort has been 5.6% drop in Body Fat by walking and modifying my mat work/sit ups/push ups routine.  Ok.  A result by just recording a time and place.
My wife is doing my body great by what we have been eating even thru 2 main holidays with major treats.  A victory.

As for my strength routine that I will combine into my daily life, I'm comfortable with the Body For Life contest 12 week transformation routine.  Just not as intense as my times before.  Exercises that target specific muscles I deem necessary to keep me straighter and in tune.
Dr's guidance as well.  Full steam ahead.

I recently uncovered two of my EAS BFL entered contests copies.  Pictures, write up and all.
I matched myself then and now.

I'm just about the same spot as I was 15 or more years ago, weight wise.  My body has held muscle tone for the most part.  It was just marbleized and cramped up.

Now that I'm doing Dynamic Stretching before walking and Static Stretching after walking.  I push my static work on my hamstrings now that I can hold on to the bottom of my shoes with discomfort that eases with relaxation concentration and breath to ssssssssssssssss the pain away.
I learned a trick that making the sound sssssssssssss with a light breathing exhale works.
Its from my Miracle Ball routine.  Melt that cramp.

I forgot what a difference stretching with shoes on and off was.  I reached to grab the middle of my foot without shoes and found out it is a little bit farther than I was expecting.
Lower back quickly stopped me.  Ok, another stretching routine will be added for that area now.

As for the 12 week transformation routine, it is this basically:
(Week 1)
Alternate Upper Body and Lower Body every other day for a 3 day workout for strength/mobility and 3 days of Cardio.

M: Upper Body
T: Cardio
W: Lower Body
Th: Cardio
F: Upper Body
Sa: Cardio
Su: Rest (Free Day)

The next week it swaps completing 1/2 cycle.
M: Lower Body
T: Cardio
W: Upper Body
Th: Cardio
F: Lower Body
Sa: Cardio
Su: Rest (Free Day)

Repeat the 2 weeks.  At the end of a 4 week cycle, KEEP the routine of switching between Upper and Lower Body
BUT
Change ALL the exercises within those body groups.

Do that for the next 4 weeks then on the final 4 weeks, switch up ALL of the exercises within the body groups AND no repeating any exercises from the first two 4 week sessions.

12 weeks completed.  Take a week off and then continue for Life another 12 week cycle with new health goals.

I can perform one transformation cycle and be finished with it just before I leave for this adventure.
I'm going to plan out a hiking muscle routine.
I'll start on this coming Monday.
Week 1 begins of 12 and then modify it as I continue.

********
Nutrition changes:
Penny Grateful is going to be on a group diet entitled the Daniel Diet.  I'm not sure what it is all about but I do know it is more Vegetarian that anything else.

Since it would not hurt me to mix things up at this juncture too WITH the workout as a bonus, I'm going to start testing Protein drink supplements in powder form.

Many young college athlete that walk the trail are already up to speed on what enhanced drinks can do for performance.
I've just been following it along for awhile for Cancer reasons.
I'm not into chemicals that I cannot pronounce.

Makes it tough in this day and age of macro and micro nutrients.  I'm concerned about plastics and Teflon too that is in my blood stream because of restaurant eating & not because of my cooking.  I do my best to refrain from aluminum cookware too.  Trons and the periodic table of elements, it is all a blur to me now.

Anyway, I've needs to get serious about my present caloric intake which should be about 1700 to 2000 good cals;

The upcoming transformation intake of increase protein and then the hiking caloric intake of 5,000 to 6,500 a day.

Not to forget to ween myself off the trail at the end.

Leave my future self a plan made today by my present self which is in and of itself a kinda time travel that I do from time to time.
Giving thanks to me for helping me and then thanking myself later for thinking of me.
It works for me.  Hike my own hike.

Last but not least, I managed to wake up to profits from the London Breakout session on Friday morning.  3.9%
I finished and started the year with 2 successful trades and my indicators are showing a banner season ahead!
Consumerism and trade.  Waves of price movement.
I'm thankful I'm allowed to trade the banks money.
I trust I'll be awarded more responsibility for my Masters Talents going forward.      :)

Moving Forward.
Enjoy your day, make it special!

2019 a local year in review - Thankfulness of Dawn

Words.  Set # 73  counting down.

(Power) Being
noun
  1. 1.
    existence.

(Force) Having
verb
gerund or present participle: having
  1. 1.
    possess, own, or hold.

************
The movie "Being There" with the star Peter Sellers comes to mind when I see today's word.

Today I find in my search a 5 min YouTube on the "Art of a Gag" using Being There as the material.
I in fact will move forward into "learning" of making film "Snipets" (Natural Lighting, Aperture, Framing, Focus, Subject) etc etc etc.

What "awoke" this thought ... I filmed a commercial & wrote a Christmas Play that was a performance (personal) flop in High School.  Shop Class and Drama After School.

I decided last night that I will film "events" along my journey.
Seed was planted from long ago.

*******

WAY BACK in my learning, I spent a few class terms in the Attica School Offset Press shop.  I did not work for the school paper, I helped mass produce it.  Shooting images onto metal templates.
Processing the metal templates in baths of Chemicals.
Cleaning up the residue and over processing of letters, pictures and characters with an pencil eraser.

All Chemicals were provided by a near by Kodak corporation for use in our darkroom.
Yes, I processed pictures and metal printing templates in a dark room at one point of my life.
A early "Peter Parker" / Spiderman comic book dream.
I realize it now, that dream came true too.

I always was tasked with "monitoring" the off set press as it fed the reams of paper in the one side by vacuum suction cups picking up one piece of paper at a time and feeding it into the process.
At the end .... a ways down a chain driven conveyor a bit, lay the landing spot for the reams which would then need to be restacked in the machine to then "run" the second plate to print the backside.

If color was desired, we had to run the stacks thru the machine as many times as there were colors.  Timing marks and color targets needed to be "alligned" by test sheets.
It was a PITA factor of 7 to run but it taught me a little about machine and man automation of the age past.  Tweaks are needed from time to time to make things run smooth.

My desire to "tune up" a few precision sewing machines finally is peaked.  I've read enough of the service manuals to "know" I can do this on a professional level at home.  For my needs right now, not as a business.

Back to the learning:
That same Shop Class that taught Photography, Development of Film, A/V cameras (pre-VHS), and VHS cameras which were large at the time.  One of our assignments was to write a commercial and film it.  I did half of that, I filmed one.  The writing came from Cheech and Chong's skit "The Empire Hancock Building".

I believe the ending about there being "Six diving boards so there's never any wait ..." caught the attention of my English Teacher who was in attendance at the viewing.   Miss Smith made it a point in her life to interact with mine to discuss the tensions of growing up in a home of ... whatever it is that we grow up with trying to process as a teen.

None the less, I learned how to produce, direct, star in and create "snipets" if I need to.   Possible impromptu as well.
Penny Grateful and I were students in an Impromptu Comedy weekend class down in Orlando, FL several years past.

1, 2, Funny is the formula.  Being There is the Gift.  The Present.

I'm looking forward to utilizing today's YouTube learning as well.
It is all created on the editors time which will be AFTER the hike.
That is where I need to spend my learning time, on the editors screen.

If something happens along the trail (by my definition of divine intervention) I'll be sure to share.

*********
I was reading this weeks local paper before I started writing today.
2019 year in review.
This area of Kentucky, rural farmland, is so reminiscent of my childhood.  Yes, there are more dangers here than up in North Java, NY but all it all, it just comes with the environment and territory.

One matures with the dangers that surround them and either remains unaware that they exist so closely or are aware and awake on how to deal with the dangers safer than at other times.

None the less, the year was a year.
Fires, Arrests, Greased Pigs cornered by the quickest youngin' at the Fair.

Life cycles.

One thing I learned long ago from bouncing from location to location on this planet ... If one needs to beef up their knowledge quickly in a new area, the local library and it's news paper collection really is a great place to "enlighten" oneself to the new environment and tribe territory they are in.  Just makes sense to know who you live near and around.

One interesting fact:
We (as a county) are 1 year into voting a "Wet" ordinance into our lives and existence.
The opposition that was venomous about keeping the county "DRY" was barely overturned.
The Church(s) were directly behind the opposition and the newspaper carried their viewpoint well.
This IS the bible belt after all and "should" be expected.

Concerns were - enabling a problem known in the area of DUI and litter.  Destroying families and the moral issues that people whom do not understand moderation can cause.

Valid without proof that selling it here would make it worse.
Possibly for the ones that drink at home and don't confess at church, this is a problem.
But for the progressives, they were tired of having to drive to get hooch.
I am included and I don't drink much at all anymore.
The progressives got their win.

1 year later:
FEARS that propagated from the pulpits was proven to be false fears and anxiety.  Crime did change.
Litter became less between the county lines that did sell alcohol.
DUI's became less because county residents did not have to travel to get beer and drink a few on their way home after work like my Dad always did.
I would hope to believe that Fathers are arriving home not buzzed for the first time in a lot of children's lives around here.

Tax money is helping to build a county seat.
Revenue from alcohol sales more than paid back the county load that was needed to set up an Alcohol Regulation Division for taxation and training.  Now the money maintains the division and provides needed training for offenders to hopefully keep them at one time offenders and not life time offenders as many are.

Change takes time.  Morality cannot be legislated.
********
The Thankfulness of Dawn each day.
In our same little local paper, I read an article by
William F. Holland Jr., DD.. C.ED.D.
Minister / Chaplain entitled:
"Being Thankful Is A State Of Mind"

I've met Billy.  He was singing Christmas tunes and Church songs to the patrons of Hope Lodge in Lexington, KY.
Came once a month so I've actually met him 3 times.

Each time was a pleasure.  He is kind, considerate and a singer/musician with a passion of giving his best to God in what he does.  Bless his heart.  Truly.

Now I'm not one to ask what all the DD's and other letters are after one's name.  Apparently it has something to do with classes and tests taken because money was spent for them.

When I met him, he was committed in his promise to God to serve.
As I read his articles most weeks, he is still committed and I respect that.  I imagine it helps pay the bills for him so that he can go out and give and serve the ones he comes in contact daily to give and serve to.  Living his life.

None the less, his article to begin this year touches off on something I consider each morning now at 5:55 AM.

As I "swing" my body out of bed each morning and not be in much pain, I agree that I give a word of "Thanks" to the Source.

The many years of not wanting to wake up from sleep because of the instance of intense pain the first moment of the day were agony.
I'm thankful my resilient, healing body system found a way to "reset" itself and is continuing to work with what I can do instead of all the things that I'm not quite able to do.
Yesterday still has nothing to do with what I can do today.

So, this morning I will agree with Billy that waking up, swinging feet to the floor to stand is nothing less than a miracle.
I have taken my blessings for granted before.
Each day I'm reminded to count them more.
"Name them one by one" as the church Sunday school song used to have us recite.

#1: I turn around from my desk here to see that our sun is just beginning to peek over the mountains to the East.
Clouds are keeping back the light but the mountains across the Red River Valley are "Smoky" like the ones in TN.
I am thankful for the dawn.

I get to start fresh each morning making "New" and hopefully not repeated mistakes.
A normal day!  :)

Keep moving forward!

They are now packaged in 3 and 4 packs.
6 flavors that I presently like.
I trust I'll space them out enough to still like them.

And Nuun.
I'll be picking up some soon when Penny Grateful and I have a moment to look over the changes with their products and marketing.   Hydration you can feel.

Not much else to say.
We traveled to the airport and took care of our "Metropolis" visit of stores that we normally do not see.

Today was JoAnn's for needles, thread and whatnot for the Serger.

On the way home, we stopped at Kroger and there were 107 Cliff Bars marked down to .50 cents from $1.25
Snatched all of them and they are now vac sealed for Mail Drops.
Split up into packs of 4 mostly.  6 different flavors as I had already picked up some Blueberry Crisp at pennies on the dollar earlier last week.

Each set of 4 has my present favorite:
White Chocolate Macadamia Nut.

And I've still 14 more of the White Choc Mac Nut's to split up with the next sale I find moving forward.

I say present because, if I have them every so many days a week for several weeks, I know I'll have one of two reactions:
1) I'll continue to like them
2) I'll despise them and wonder what I was thinking this day when I made the bulk purchase.

I'm going to go with my nutritional mind and say that my famished body will accept the treat gladly every day I present them to myself as either breakfast, snack, snack, snack, or snack during the day.
I might even brew a cup of coffee or tea each time I enjoy one.
Time will tell and I know I'll blog about it in my future.

5000 to 6500 calories a day on average will be needed from what I've come to understand.  These are just 250 to 260 calorie, 9g protein, carb and natural sugar boosts.  1000 a day towards the 5750 average I will need to hit.

As for the Nuun tablets: I like them.  They have been around over 10 years and that says something.  They are very portable and simple to use.  All of that works for me.

Time to crunch more data before sleep.

Moving forward.

The Bills schedule of teams was announced for next year.  The dates will be awarded to the games sometime in April near the Draft.

KC in Buffalo and Buffalo in Vegas Baby!
A Hampton Inn is just blocks from the new stadium.

Hummmm .... I'll find out near the beginning of my hike in April when they play.   Then again, it is only a game.

I'll be out hiking after I find out the dates and crowds are what I'll be out there avoiding.  Coming out of the woods to be in a crowd ... decision change: I'll watch them on TV.  Cheaper.  :)

Well that was an interesting moment.
Talking myself out of desiring to travel to a game that I most likely cannot afford to go to anyway.
In a way, my expectation did end up as a disappointment.
I was wondering how I was going to segway that saying into this text.  It happened.

If one does not "expect" and just "allows" ...
no disappointments are received, only gifts.
The present.
Thanks Source!  :)

**********

I found this yesterday on the Trek web site.
The Trek web page has there is a lot of "recent" pertinent data many have shared in their rants and raves.

This post was to help people not leave the trail pre-maturely and it starts with a question:
Ready to Quit?  Read this first.

This post is about mercy.
It’s about revising your Appalachian Trail plan- or your life plan– without apology.
It’s about ambiguity and acceptance and really good pie.
It’s about hikes that end. And begin again.
It’s about the decision to keep walking.
What do you mean by mercy?
Dictionary definition:
mer·cy /ˈmərsē/
1. Compassion or forgiveness
2. An event to be grateful for, especially because it prevents something unpleasant or provides relief from suffering
3. Especially of a journey or mission- motivated by compassion

So many of the people I know who got off trail got separated for a prolonged time from their trail family, or felt somehow distanced from others on the trail socially.
Remember, out here the people you hike and camp with are not just pals like back in the real world.
They are your coworkers, your neighbors, your friend group, and your family.
We don’t have somewhere else to go to – phone and text notwithstanding – for moral and emotional support in person.

So again I entreat you – have mercy.
Have mercy for whomever you happen to find yourself around, even if they are passing day-hikers or section-hikers.
Even if they are not “that amazing group you hiked with way back when.”
Have mercy for your past, present, and future groups of fellow hikers, who may or may not be all that you need or want them to be.
They may not fully understand you or vice versa.
But you are sharing together something special and hard and unique, and everyone’s pretty much doing the best they can.

Most of all have mercy for yourself, for still doing this thing without your network of community back home.
Thank yourself for what you’ve been able to do thus far.
And thank the AT for giving you a place to do it.

Forgiveness and Mercy before I start.  That's a good start.
I was looking thru some of the 1000 peoples so far who have registered for hiking this year.  Many have profile pictures and blogs started.  Some have adventures left to be completed from past attempts, some are starting out fresh like I.
All in all, "I", like "them", have little LONG DISTANCE hiking experience.  We all some camping experiences but many have little long hiking experiences.  Planned Hikes.
I have 2 under my belt of 50 and 37 miles.  I don't count them since they happened decades ago. Times and things change.

So, yes I do know how to do without and to do with crushed things and crumbs.  Freezing, being cold, being muddy, being rained on, being tired at the end of a day.
Having fingers that could not light a lighter or a match ... that is a memory I desire to make sure it sticks in my mind.

Cuts, abrasions, knicks ... they all happen.
Goal: to make sure I do not feel that feeling again of being fire helpless.  Slow and steady.  Hunker down when required.

Hiker: #T9611  (Optional A.T. Pre-Hike Registration)

Optional "except" it is needed to enter and register for a hiking permit at Baxter to hike up Katahdin.
Only 3000 or so of them being administered each year.

That is just one of the many reasons I choose to walk in 3 sections in stead of just one continuous.
* The Best Seasons for the sections
* The Most Solitude for the journey
* I will see Katahdin as I walk towards her and I'll be early enough to get a pass to hike her.
* The South will be changing colors as I hike that last area.

***********
And of course: Happy New Year!
Make it your best one on record!

*************
Thrifty:

Building some equipment that I care to know how it's constructed to hold up and then I'll understand better how to repair it if it rips or tears or crushes.

Looking for deals and getting some with extra work with the deals like mold removal or mending.  Life happens to us all.
Then I get deals that are too good to be true at 60 to 70% off.

It all balances out.

Weight (Body) today is 208# and steady on my 3 week plateau.
I've always plateaued near 200#.  I'll be past this soon.

Lastly, I start the year at a Zero Balance for this adventure.
I've spent nearly $2500 so far on logistics, equipment and some food for testing.
I've much to do and will keep moving forward.
Wait for the next payday and keep doing what I'm doin.
I have shoes, backpack, mail drops, travel and food to still consider.  At least the equipment list is getting smaller.
I've found my stash of filters, ditty bags, towels and such.
The little things that add up to pounds on the back.

According to last years hiker trash data, I'm on the low end of the cost spectrum.  I hope to keep it that way.
Average is $1000 a month.
I've not even started the first month and I'm 2.5 months into this according to that stat.  (5 to 8 months).

Full trip averages $5000 to $8000 depending upon the town stays, pizza and beer.

One hiker last year exceeded $15,000 !!!
Medical lift off of a mountain was included in their costs.
Some others that spent that much were just rich.

These are hikers from all over the world who attempt this trek.  I'm glad and thankful that they are sharing their words.

Moving Forward into 2020!
